Pit Furnaces

Pit furnace for gas carburizing

The pit furnace is well suited to heating of.xxxx. The furnace cover can either be removed with an overhead crane or be lifted/swung to the side. The pit furnace is easy to seal and is used for carburizing, carbonitriding, nitrocarburizing and nitriding. It can be made very deep; an example where this is applied is the carburizing of rock drill rods. The majority of the pit furnaces are of a retort type.

To get a comfortable working height at the plant the furnace is usually placed under floor level. The retort cover is manually swung to the side having been lifted with the help of pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders. The charge is then exposed and can be lifted by overhead crane to the cooling pit. The furnace is mounted on a stand on the floor in the basement.
